Origins

In ancient times, myrtle was considered a plant as noble as laurel or olive. It is one of the most typical shrubs of the Corsican maquis, where it has long been used for its digestive properties. For example, wild boar stew is flavored with a sprig of myrtle. Its wood, flexible and resistant, is used in traditional basketry.


The young shoots are distilled. Regrowth is quite rapid and allows the operation to be repeated each year. When distilling myrtle, the water from the first half-hour of distillation is kept because this is where the active plant ingredients are most concentrated.


Corsican women call this floral water "Angel's Water" and have praised it for generations to give radiance to the skin. Myrtle hydrolate can soothe tired eyes in children and adults, puffy eyelids, or dry eyes. It is suitable for all skin types for daily facial care.


Calming, it promotes relaxation: it can be sprayed on the pillow before falling asleep. In winter, it clears the bronchial tubes and gently improves respiratory comfort.


Properties: Astringent, anti-allergic, decongestant, antiseptic, expectorant, mucolytic, soothing, purifying.


Areas of action: Decongestion of tired or irritated eyes, cleansing and moisturizing the skin, oily skin, enlarged pores, relaxation and sleep, respiratory congestion.

Harvesting in the wild: Myrtle, endemic to Corsica, is harvested from natural sites on the island, selected, declared and verified every year.

Precautions for use

Hydrosols are gentler than essential oils. They have no intrinsic contraindications.

However, this does not mean that you cannot react to the active ingredients they contain (if in doubt, perform an elbow crease test).

Storage: Please note that floral waters are fresh products. Their shelf life is therefore shorter than that of essential oils (approximately 1 year). To maximize their lifespan, store your hydrosols in a cool place, away from air, heat, and light.
