Origins

Thyme comes in 300 varieties. The Thymol chemotype is the most common. It is traditionally harvested after flowering, in late May - early June or in September, just after the morning dew and before the day's intense heat.

Red thyme essential oil transports you to the heart of the Provençal garrigue. An excellent anti-infective, its broad spectrum is unmatched. However, caution is advised: it is very potent—almost too potent—and should only be used by adults as a last resort, when the situation becomes critical. Aude Maillard, a Doctor of Pharmacy, describes thyme with thymol as the "GIGN" of essential oils. And indeed, against various infections, it proves to be a formidable weapon! Thymol is a powerful bactericide.

In organic beekeeping, thyme essential oil with thymol is used to get rid of varroa mites, a parasite of the bee that weakens and destabilizes their immune system by sucking their blood.
